Hauntings Contest

With Halloween just around the corner, people go out of their way to hear a scary story, whether around a campfire, at a sleepover, in a movie theater, or on TV. This year, thrill seekers will have one more way to get their adrenaline fix during a night of suspense in the 6th annual Hauntings storytelling contest. The Hauntings Storytelling Competition is about spine tingling, suspense-filled stories told by scary story master tellers. Do you tell such tales or know someone who does? Register now to compete or mark the dates to come and listen! Time limit for stories is 10 minutes; first round pf competition, Saturday, October 19 2-5 pm at the Orem Library. Final contest; Monday, October 28th, 7 pm.

HAUNTINGS STORYTELLING CONTEST GUIDELINES
– Adult contestants only (age 18+)
– No longer than 10 minutes
– Registration deadline: Thursday, October 17 at 11:59 pm
– We are looking for stories filled with suspense, intrigue, mystery, and uncertainty. These are far more effective than stories containing gratuitous violence and gore. Make the audience wonder what’s going to happen next. Remember, don’t just describe the ghost; help your listeners feel and see it. 

HAUNTINGS AUDITION
– Orem Public Library – Storytelling Wing
– Saturday, October 19 from 2 – 5 pm (Contest Committee will contact you for your preferred time slot after you register)
– Walk-ins are welcome
– $10 entry fee due at the audition (cash or Venmo). If you audition via video, we will e-mail you the Venmo information.

VIDEO AUDITIONS
– Video auditions may also be submitted. Include a YouTube link to your video in the registration form below
– Videos must be submitted by 11:59 pm on Friday, October 18th. Videos taken with your phone are adequate.
– You must be able to attend the final round if you are selected.

HAUNTINGS FINAL ROUND
– Orem Public Library – Storytelling Wing
– Monday, October 28 at 7 pm
– Details: Participants will be judged by a panel of storytelling experts based on technique, story development, originality, effectiveness, and staying in the time limit. There will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and audience choice winners. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the evening.
