1994 Tell me a Story - Poster

Richard Hull

Quick Overview

At first glance, it is a simple illustration of the word “Story”. But look a little closer. Children’s book illustrator and artist Richard Hull has added a few surprises to his rendition of Tell Me a Story for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival’s 5th anniversary. Isn’t that S made out of a swan? Doesn’t the R seem to have something to do with Rapunzel’s hair? The frame of each letter is filled with things that share the same first letter – From Yankees to teepees, and more than a few fairy tales and legends are hiding as well.

The age old request to “Tell me a story is familiar to parents and teachers the world over. It is what we think when opening a new book, or greeting a long absent friend. It is what we mean when we ask “What happened at work today?” or “Grandma, tell me what you were like as a child?” Storytelling is the stuff of life, and it is what we celebrate each year at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival.
