Timpanogos Storytelling School Programs

505x218 Charlotte Blake Alston

Timpanogos Storytelling is committed to bringing world-class storytellers to Utah’s students during the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival and throughout the year. Please read the following descriptions in order to select the option that best meets your school’s needs.

Free Storytelling Programs for Public and Charter Schools

Generous funding from the Utah State Legislature to the Utah State Office of Education Professional Outreach Program to Schools (POPS) and Festival sponsors allows the program to be offered public and charters schools in the Utah free of charge. Participating school can choose to attend the Festival (September 1-2, 2016) or to have school assemblies and workshops (various dates throughout the 2016-17 school year) for free.

Participating schools agree to have their students create and perform their own short storytelling piece during the school year. To aid in this process, Timpanogos Storytelling provides participating schools free access to the performance, easily adaptable lesson plans, a special resource DVD with master storyteller Donald Davis, and an Introduction to Storytelling CD with a variety of stories from professional storytellers for each teacher. Click here for more information about the POPS program (including differences between the Festival program and school assemblies).  Due to demand, we cannot schedule school performances two years in a row for schools that already received free school POPS performances. However, schools who commit to participating in the program are welcome to attend the Festival site every year. Festival slots are booked in order of response until they are filled.

Additional Storytelling Programs for All Utah Schools

Thanks to generous sponsors, we are able to provide the opportunity to schools that are not interested or able to participate in the Storytelling in the Classroom program to still watch professional storytellers. Timpanogos Storytelling typically subsidizes these programs by over 50% of their cost. Schools pay $1 per person to attend a Festival event or $350 for one assembly and $500 for two assemblies during the Festival week.
